On the heels of a weekend in which the city’s hotels were “totally occupied,” statistics show 1,869,421 room nights were sold in Halifax in 2023, up more than five per cent over 2022.

That includes inns, bed and breakfasts, and Airbnb and VRBO operators. Also as of last year, tourism accommodation operators must be registered with the province. Property owners are required to do monthly remittances to the city, with a penalty of $25 per day imposed on non-remittance.
