Vancouver Coastal Health creating \u0027new model\u0027 of detox services for youth that will be safer during the epidemic and to start in late 2022.

“I hope it can be open forever, of course, but I wish it could at least be open until the other so-called services start up, because having a gap in services is just going to be devastating to youth.”Article content, a Downtown Vancouver drop-in centre that offers low-barrier services to about 1,000 vulnerable people under age 25 every year. Directions is overseen by Family Services of Greater Vancouver, which has helped people struggling with homelessness and other crises for nearly a century.
The health authority is creating a “new model” of services that will include new youth-specific detox beds for homeless young people, expanding supports for youth who can detox at home, and creating a Downtown Eastside youth outreach team to target those who aren’t accessing VCH’s services, the email said.
For youth aged 19 to 24 without homes, this includes accommodating rapid intake at the Harbour Light detox centre for adults in the DTES or at Vancouver Detox, which is run by the health authority and offers medical detox. Youth outreach workers would be stationed at both locations, the email said.Article content
