The first of two exhibition games against the African side will be a continuation of Canada’s celebration tour, recognizing its gold-medal victory at the Tokyo Olympics last summer. The two teams will play again in Langford, B.C. on Vancouver Island on Monday.

“Everyone is excited, they’re all happy to be together as they always are and training has been electric, to be honest,” said Canada head coach Bev Priestman on Thursday. “I think being at home, being at BC Place, you can already feel the excitement amongst the group. We have some new faces that bring a different dynamic and then you’ve got the likes of Steph Labbe and Sync back in and that brings a great dynamic to the group. I’m excited and I can’t wait until kickoff.

“I think having Christine back, she brings that aura of calmness to the group,” Priestman said. “It’s fantastic to have her back, and her being here in B.C., is special as it is to share that moment as a group with her as well as her family and friends and the fans.Article content The Spruce Grove, Alta., product will have a number of friends and family members in the stands to watch her last game, having made the trip from Edmonton.

Labbe has been with the Canadian national team since 2008. She has made 86 appearances for her country and was instrumental in Canada winning gold at the Olympics with a number of critical saves throughout the tournament.
