Detroit is tackling a tough technology problem and last weekend during the Under30Summit Hackathon, 6 ForbesUnder30 listmakers devised a new solution In partnership with RocketMortgage
Throughout June, Forbes harnessed the creativity of its Under 30 community and joined forces with Detroit to design solutions to pressing challenges facing the city. Four teams of Under 30 listers mentored by industry icons convened virtually each week to tackle issues across supply chains, small business and the digital divide. As each week’s brainstorming wrapped up, participants met with city leaders to present actionable ideas for powering innovation and resilience in Detroit.
A lifeline of Detroit’s economy, small businesses are struggling to stay afloat in the wake of pandemic—a challenge that disproportionately impacts the city’s minority-owned companies. This week, participants generated solutions for rebuilding and adapting businesses as Michigan reopens, with a focus on supporting entrepreneurs of color.
This week’s objective focused on bridging the community's digital divide, a disparity highlighted by the COVID-19 crisis. With an estimated 70% of the city’s students lacking internet access at home, teams generated bold ideas that could democratize digital access and promise a connected future for all Detroit residents.
