Second-year Burnaby recruit key in T-wolves run to bronze medal in conference playoffs

Days after his Timberwolves made history as the first team in UNBC history to win a U SPORTS Canada West medal, Justin Sunga has been named the conference’s men’s basketball player of the week.Sunga, the starting point guard was a central figure in UNBC’s playoff run to the bronze medal, capped by their 94-80 win over the Calgary Dinos Sunday in Winnipeg.

In the four playoff games Sunga averaged 13 points, nine points and 4.5 rebounds to help the T-wolves upset wins over UBC and Manitoba that led up to their bronze medal win. Sunga, a Burnaby high school product, joined the T-wolves for the 2022-23 season. This year he averaged 5.3 assists and 10.2 points per game and broke two team records.

He collected 10 assists in a game against Grant MacEwan on Nov. 18 and went on to set the all-time season record with 105 helpers.
