T-wolves split two-game series with perennial powerhouse T-birds in January at Northern Sport Centre
Now that the U SPORTS Canada West men’s basketball season is complete, the UNBC Timberwolves know who their opponents will be when the 12-team playoff tournament starts Wednesday in Winnipeg.
The T-wolves will take on the UBC Thunderbirds in a single-game-elimination play-in round game Wednesday at 6 p.m. PT. It will mark the second time since UNBC joined Canada West in 2012 that the men will face the T-birds in a playoff game. The T-wolves finished with the 10th-best record but dropped down to 12th based on the RPI ranking which takes into account the strength of each team’s opponents.The UNBC-UBC winner will advance to a quarterfinal against the host Manitoba Bisons , who placed third in the 20-game regular season.
On Jan. 19, the T-wolves got 28 points from Chris Ross and cruised to a 88-69 victory over UBC at the Northern Sport Centre, which marked their first-ever home-court win over the T-birds. UBC won the rematch the following night 81-73.All playoff games can be streamed live on Canada West TV.
