They were granted in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act, following the government's October 2023 announcement introducing a provincial approach to ride-sharing. Legislative amendments permitting ride-sharing services took effect on Dec. 21, 2023.To operate in Newfoundland and Labrador, ride-sharing companies must obtain a licence from the Registrar of Motor Vehicles. Additionally, all ride-sharing drivers are required to hold a Class 4 licence.
