HEPWORTH – The remains of two people were found Monday morning during a search for two men last seen more than two months ago in a community near Owen Sound.
Yellow police tape was placed around a triangular shape of land in a field on the west side of Legion Road, from a gatepost at that intersection of Spring Creek Road, to a copse of trees in the field, and back to a line of trees beside Legion Road.“We have a conclusion,” said Nick Oldrieve, a founder of the amateur missing persons search group, Please Bring Me Home, after speaking briefly with Keith Campbell’s mother, Susan Campbell.
“OPP are going to confirm the identity of the deceased. Right now, we know that there’s two people that were found. It was in close proximity but you can’t say for certain it’s them until they do their thing but it appears that it’s them,” Oldrieve said. The search involved about 45 volunteers, including a couple of off-duty police officers, Oldrieve said. Four teams were assigned search areas and the rail trail team discovered the remains while heading toward the trail, before reaching it, he said.Article content
Hatt’s own birth mother, Kristina Rhodes-Collins, has been missing since 1991 and is among the cases of missing people that Oldrieve’s group lists as a cold case. Hatt attended school with Keith first in Hepworth and then at high school in Wiarton.Article content The Please Bring Me Home website said Campbell was taking a cooking course at the Wiarton Salvation Army the day he went missing. His parents took him to a doctor’s appointment, then dropped him off at the bank and never saw or heard from him again.
