It was an absolute monster day for Vlad Guerrero jr. yesterday. He went 7-10 with three doubles, two home runs and a walk. Vlad is now hitting .311/.381/.524, tied for being the 10th best hitter in the league by wRC+. Time to pay the man. More broadly, the Blue Jays had a pretty solid day on the field. It got off to a disastrous start, with Yariel Rodriguez giving up four runs while getting only two outs and hitting Orioles catcher James McCann in the face in the first inning of game one.
When it was first announced only Bloss’ name was known, and honestly that felt like a pretty solid get for a rental pitcher to me. But Loperfido is a real MLB player, and while Wagner is a less hyped prospect he can really hit, and the Jays love that. Getting all three feels like a heist, and that seems to be the general reaction among pundits, with the straight A grades from The Athletic’s panel representing a typical reaction.
