Last night was horrible. Ernie Clement probably had the best outing on the pitching staff, which isn’t a thing I should ever have to write, and the offence could do absolutely nothing with Taj Bradley. They clearly need a new game strategy. Maybe we should invest in some drones. We saw our first couple of real deadline deals yesterday. First, the Diamondbacks traded for Marlins reliever A.J. Puk, sending back first baseman Deyvison De los Santos and lefty CF Andrew Pintar.
He’s averaged out to about three wins over the past three and a half seasons, and Seattle controls him for two seasons after this one, for arbitration salaries that’ll probably be in the $13 and $18m range. Smith is the main prize in the return. Seattle’s fourth round pick last year, he ranks in the teens on Mariners prospect lists, but that’s outdated information.
