It’s Draft Day, that time of year that only really matters when you’re thinking more about the future than the present. Which, after the way the first two games of this series have gone, I know I am. The last minute mock drafts are out this morning. Baseball America has the Jays tied pretty closely to Stanford catcher Malcolm Moore, who’s a strong hitter with big power but work to do to stick behind the plate as a pro.
They’ve gotten a collective 39 wRC+ out of their catchers with bad defense, so Danny would represent a massive upgrade in that department. Personally, I’d be sad to see him go. Danny is the longest tenured player in the Jays organization, having been drafted in the 16th round of the 2013 draft. I’ve been a fan of his for most of that time, as he worked his way up through the minors and proved to be one of the biggest drafting and development successes for the team in the last decade.
