Two of the Toronto Transit Commission's ( TTC ) busiest streetcar lines, the 509 Harbourfront and 511 Bathurst , will face significant disruptions due to a long-term project aimed at replacing aging watermains and streetcar tracks. Construction is scheduled to commence next week on February 16th and continue until June 21st, impacting passengers who rely on these routes for months. The intersection of Bathurst St ., Lakeshore Blvd. W., and Fleet St.
will be the primary focus of the project, which TTC Chair Jamaal Myers describes as 'crucial to maintaining the state-of-good-repair on the TTC system.' The TTC is working diligently to ensure that alternative routes are available for customers throughout the construction period. They will closely monitor service and make necessary adjustments to minimize inconvenience. The 511 Bathurst streetcar will operate on a modified route from February 16th to June 21st. Streetcars will run from Bathurst Station to King St. W. at Spadina Ave., while 511B Bathurst replacement buses will operate from Bathurst St. at Queen St. W. to Exhibition Loop. Starting on February 17th and lasting until March 29th, the 509 Harbourfront streetcar will provide service only between Union Station and Spadina Ave. The remaining portion of the route will be covered by 509B Harbourfront replacement bus service. The disruption will intensify from March 30th until June 21st when service on the 509 will be completely suspended. During this time, the 510A Spadina streetcar will become the primary option for traveling between Union Station and Spadina Ave. TTC CEO Greg Percy acknowledges the challenges that construction and route diversions pose to commuters, emphasizing the transit agency's commitment to informing customers about the upcoming changes and providing guidance on using alternative routes. The TTC aims to minimize disruption by phasing the project to avoid a complete closure of the Bathurst St. and Lake Shore Blvd. W. intersection
