More than 20 centimetres of snow has fallen across the GTA and police are warning drivers to avoid all non-essential travel.GO Transit says that its operating on a special schedule on Thursday to ensure it can “maintain reliable service” while keeping trains clear of snow and ice build-up. The transit agency says that some train trips have been cancelled or modified as a result.
GO Transit says there are also numerous GO bus delays, particularly in the Kitchener, Milton, Georgetown and Hamilton areas. It says that most delays are 15 minutes or less. However, some trips have been cancelled due to road conditions.The TTC says that customers will experience significant delays across its entire streetcar network due to weather and mechanical issues.
Service has been suspended on the 506 streetcar from College St at Lansdowne Ave to High Park Loop due to a derailment. It is unclear if the issue is weather related.The TTC says that staff will also monitor surface routes throughout Thursday and may replace streetcar service with buses on select routes to allow more streetcars to operate downtown.
Most express bus routes have been converted to local bus services to ensure that all buses are serving all available stops, the TTC says. The 900 Airport Express and 927 Highway 27 Express continue to run according to their normal routes.Ontario Provincial Police say that they are continuing to respond to collisions and reports of vehicles stuck in road drifts across the GTA. OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says that visibility remains poor on most 400-series highways with “no discernible lane markings.
