SHELBURNE, N.S. — Shelburne County rolled out the red carpet on June 1 to honour the firefighters, emergency responders, and volunteers who battled and worked through the 2023 Barrington Lake wildfire.
“We’re here to honour the fire service. These men and women jump to service without thought because they know someone else needs help, leaving behind family to help others," said Sheila Hartley Scott, president of the Hundreds of firefighters were on hand for the unveiling of an art installation on June 1 at Atlantic Park in Shelburne in honour of all the fire departments, volunteers and emergency responders who battled the 2023 Barrington Lake wildfire. Nickerson said he personally witnessed people volunteering when they didn’t even know if they had a house to go back to. South Shore St. Margarets MP Rick Perkins said the art installation will live on as a great reminder of all of the love the community has for all who came from across the province, and other provinces, to battle the wildfire, which was the largest in the province's history.
"It was important for me to be here today with our brothers and sisters in the fire service and also to recognize you for what you did for this project, it's truly impressive," Jones said.
