SaltWire's Atlantic regional weather forecast for November 3, 2023 | SaltWireSYDNEY, N.S. — A provincial court trial date has been set for a Sydney man charged with luring offences.
Jason Matthew Gillis, 36, is charged with break, enter and theft, assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon , possession of a firearm with no license, possession of a prohibited weapon with no license, possession of a prohibited weapon while prohibited and mischief in relation to household damages.Gillis, who continues his release on conditions, is now scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on March 7.
Dale Lewis, 32, was fined after pleading guilty to a charge of failing to report lost fishing gear within 24 hours. Other charges were dismissed.The court was told court that the line of traps was discovered by fishery officers and when they confronted Lewis, he admitted the items were his and that he did not report them missing as required under the terms and conditions of his license.
Lewis said he forgot to report the items missing and there was no indication he left the items in the water to continue fishing. At the time of the offence, the lobster fishing season had just closed.The fine is to be paid by the end of May 2024.William Kevan Capstick, 76, of Sydney Mines, is charged with possession of female lobsters with eggs attached and possession of undersized lobsters.Capstick has entered pleas of not guilty and is now scheduled to stand trial in provincial court on Aug.
