Leon scored in the 16th minute, depositing a rebound in past New Zealand goalkeeper Anna Leat, who got the call in favour opening-game starter Erin Nayler. New Zealand came close to tying the game 10 minutes later, as Ria Percival hammered a shot from well outside the penalty area, which was dipping under the crossbar.
