The veteran police officer\u0027s son is charged in the 2020 killing that made international headlines

Det.-Const. Trevor Gregory, 47, appeared by video in a London courtroom Friday and pleaded guilty to breach of trust.

Keiron Gregory contacted his father the day before the deadly shooting, saying that a man he’d met in a Toronto hotel had “ripped him off for a large sum of cash via an illegal, counterfeit money scheme,” according to an agreed statement of facts read by assistant Crown attorney Konrad de Koning. “Trevor did not say anything to Keiron about the paper and walked out of the room. While Trevor was out of the room . . . Keiron took a photo of the piece of paper that was later recovered on Keiron’s cellphone,” de Koning said.Article content

But Det.-Const. Gregory, who knew his son was involved in illegal activity, didn’t report the alleged theft to police, said de Koning, who is seeking a jail term for the 23-year Toronto police officer. The statement of facts read into the record Friday also included details surrounding Horrace’s death, some of which had been previously alleged in a civil lawsuit and Det.-Const. Gregory’s professional misconduct case.

The lawsuit alleges that Toronto police were negligent for allowing the father and son to access information on the police database for the commission of crimes and says the force didn’t to enough to prevent the disclosure of that information.
