“He couldn’t work. He couldn’t do anything. He couldn’t concentrate. He stopped sleeping, he stopped eating,” she said of her husband. Missaghi had faced legal trouble in the past; in March 2018, he was charged by Toronto police in an alleged mortgage fraud investigation dubbed “Project Bridle Path.” A spokesperson for the Ministry of the Attorney General told Global News that in July 2021, the Crown withdrew the charges against Missaghi.Arash Missaghi, a businessman, was named alongside Golnaz Vakili in several civil suits containing allegations of mortgage fraud.

Pogorelovsky said the justice system let them down, but noted that there are still court proceedings.
