Gloomy skies, thunderstorms and rain in Toronto have now been replaced by hot and sticky conditions this morning as a prolonged stretch of heat and humidity takes hold in Ontario.

Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for Toronto and many regions of Ontario today amid soaring temperatures and muggy conditions.

“Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.” A special weather statement triggered by a “cluster” of slow moving thunderstorms earlier this morning has now ended but a heat warning remains in effect for the Greater Toronto Area.

Toronto will see a high of 32 C today but the temperature will feel closer to 41 when factoring in humidity.
