FILE - Texas' Logan Eggleston spikes the ball against Kentucky's Elise Goetzinger and Madison Lilley in the fourth set during the finals in the NCAA women's volleyball championships Saturday, April 24, 2021, in Omaha, Neb. Eggleston is the Big 12 preseason player of the year for the second straight time. AUSTIN — Before longtime Texas coach Jerritt Elliott arrived at Gregory Gym for Thursday’s NCAA Tournament regional semifinals match against No.
“What an awesome match,” Elliott said Thursday after reaching the regional finals for the 16th time in 17 seasons. “We got some pressure put on us, which is great. We want to be in those situations. I like the way we hit the rest button, the trust they had in one another to come back and pull out the match.”Senior outside hitter Logan Eggleston sent tremors through the stands with a pair of kills early in the first set. She had two aces and six kills in a dominant opening salvo.
Eggleston opened the fourth and final set with two booming kills. Marquette steadied itself and pulled within one, down 4-3 with hope still lingering. Then Texas really turned it on. “We don’t have to be perfect to win,” Fleck said. “It’s about how can each of us be present in each moment and do one little thing better than we did last set and then continue moving forward one point at a time.”
