After Uncharted, Tom Holland says he wants to make a live-action JakAndDaxter movie. 'I would make it at A24, so it would be really weird, and like dark...'

Ahead of its theatrical release, Uncharted star Tom Holland has revealed he'd like to adapt another Naughty Dog game to film with Jak and Daxter. Holland plays Nathan Drake, the protagonist of Naughty Dog's Uncharted series. The Jak and Daxter platformer series launched in 2001 with Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, being followed by five other installments and three rereleases on later generation consoles.

Set before the events of the game series, Uncharted stars Tom Holland as a younger Nathan Drake, who is dragged into a quest to find the lost fortune of Ferdinand Magellan by Mark Whalberg's veteran fortune hunter Victor"Sully" Sullivan. Together, the pair are pitted against Antonio Banderas's rival treasure hunter Moncada and his mercenaries, leading to cargo plane scuffles, undercover jobs at parties, and ancient ruins.

"I would like to make a Jak and Daxter movie, and I would play Jak. But I would make it at A24, so it would be really weird, and like dark... Yeah, I would do a really weird live-action version of Jak and Daxter." While Uncharted's marketing hopes to capture the games' spirit on film, it isn't the only Naughty Dog property to be adapted in recent years. In March 2020, HBO confirmed that they had begun developing a television series inspired by the popular The Last of Us video game, with writer Neil Druckman working with Chernobyl's Craig Mazin to write and develop the show.

While Uncharted may be another positive move for video game adaptations to film, it is unlikely that Sony or Naughty Dog will take Holland's idea to heart. Though it may lead to mind-bending, weird visuals, many studios are opting to adapt video games in ways recognizable to the existing audiences, as seen with Uncharted's marketing. After all, video game adaptations are notorious for struggling with fans and critics alike, so Jak and Daxter may just be too big of a risk.
