Tom Holland got in a little trouble during SpiderManNoWayHome's press tour... 'I got a phone call from... the studio, saying, 'Stop saying the movie is brutal!... I was like, 'But it is! This is the most emotional superhero movie that's ever been made.''

Tom Holland says that he got in trouble for describing Spider-Man: No Way Home as a"brutal" movie. Perhaps the most mature out of all three MCU Spider-Man movies, the Jon Watts-directed threequel launches Peter Parker to the next phase with the upcoming Spider-Man 4. Between the character being popular and the rumors about its star-studded cast, Marvel Studios and Sony didn't have to sell it too hard for fans to be interested.

Marketing for Spider-Man: No Way Home started late, perhaps because Marvel Studios and Sony knew the public was already intrigued by it. Admittedly, it was difficult to promote it considering how much of its narrative was going to give away a lot of the spoiler elements of the film. Despite persistent rumors that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire appearing as their respective versions of Spider-Man, the companies remained mum, opting to save the reveal in the blockbuster itself.

"It's funny, I actually got in trouble on the press tour. I got a phone call from some people at the studio, saying, 'Stop saying the movie is brutal! Stop saying the movie is emotional! It doesn't sell the movie!' And I was like, 'But it is! This is the most emotional superhero movie that's ever been made.' And they were like, 'We want people to understand how fun it is.' And I was like, 'It is fun, but it's also kind of heartbreaking.

It makes sense that Marvel Studios and Sony wanted to market Spider-Man: No Way Home as a fun, lighthearted film as it would appeal to a broader audience. Fans of the MCU and the character were already going to see it regardless of how it was going to pan out, so the marketing was meant to reach out to casual moviegoers. The fact that it also released around Christmastime all the more motivated the studios to present it as a family-friendly feature.

It's curious if there would've really been any difference if Holland continued to promote Spider-Man: No Way Home by calling it "brutal." After the initial wave of fans watching it during its opening weekend, word quickly traveled around about how good it is. Considering this, the rest of the public was indirectly compelled to check it out themselves to find out what it was really about. In any case, the film was a massive success, and that's all that really matters. .
