That deal overtime has shifted and I believe it’s time for the federal government to increase its funding of health care.” After a virtual meeting in December, the premiers renewed their call for much-needed additional health-care funding and sent a letter to the prime ministerThe premiers stressed that as substantial investments are being made by provinces and territories, a true federal funding partnership through the Canada Health Transfer is needed to support, accelerate and broaden the implementation of their ongoing work in response to unprecedented challenges.

Some provinces and territories, such as the Northwest Territories and Yukon, as well as the Atlantic provinces, are working on separate arrangements to meet their specific needs, the federal source told the Globe and Mail.“I believe that the provinces have a stronger voice when they are unified and that’s the approach,” he said.

The premier was asked if the fact that some jurisdictions have surpluses undermines the position of Nova Scotia and other struggling provinces.
