The City of Oshawa is sharing how you can mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in the city.
Oshawa is located on the traditional and treaty territory of the Mississaugas and Chippewa Anishinaabeg and is covered by the Williams Treaties. The city says they are the presently home to the largest number of Indigenous peoples in Durham Region and they are honoured to proclaim September 30 as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day in Oshawa.
One is the Gchi-Piitendaagziwag Kina Binoojiijag ‘Every Child Matters’ Orange Ribbon Memorials. Until September 7, you can visit and tie an orange ribbon at one of the memorials to commemorate the children lost and negatively impacted by the harm caused through residential schools. The locations are as follows:Delpark Homes Centre Oshawa City Hall The city is also flying the Survivors’ Flag at city hall for all of September.
