There's the mother out in the South Park area of Houston who wasn't going to wait till December to do her Christmas shopping. Among the items on her list was a log cabin playhouse for her children that was made by a local fence company. Also in the news that day was the presumed death of a Houston man who disappeared while on a dive 11 miles off Galveston. Coast Guard crews and friends of the diver conducted a search for Joe Steed, the son of a former Texas City mayor and UH student. The Chronicle noted that a 15-foot shark was in the area.
