Twelve ways to stay cool at night that actually work in hot weather
The UK will continue to bask in the summer heatwave this week, with temperatures possibly climbing higher than 40C in some areas. The weather has been warmer than popular holiday destinations around the globe, with Manchester's conditions outshining Turkey's on Monday.
In fact James Wilson, aka The Sleep Geek, says that while it might make you feel cooler for the first few minutes the added moisture will quickly heat up and will make you hotter during the night. He said: "When hot weather comes around there are some tips given out that may sound like they would work when actually they really, really don’t.
3. Keep west-facing curtains closed If your bedroom gets the evening sun make sure you keep your curtains closed but your windows open. The sun streaming in may look nice but it will turn your bedroom into an oven. 6. Make an ice fan! Grab yourself a bowl of ice water and position it in front of a fan. This will create a cooling breeze.
9. Sleep downstairs Hot air rises meaning your downstairs is probably cooler than your upstairs. Clearly not an option for those in flats – but you can always pop the mattress on the floor.
