“The weather has been good up to now, there was not a whole lot of frost. The only protection from frost is to water them all night,” said Eric Parker of Parker’s Farm. The cool nights help keep the berries good, and its not too hot during the day.”

Strawberry growers say this year's crop is looking good.The perfect strawberry. You can get them straight from the field here in Pictou County at places like Parker’s and MacLean’s u-pick operations and roadside stands.

Cohen Ross, Sylvester, is a commercial picker for Parker’s farm. He was busy loading berries on this brilliant day. Ray Burns – The News - Ray Burns “We’ve got a pretty good crop, but for a while we didn’t have many pickers. We’ve got a lot of berries on our hands. There’s a pretty good crowd today,” he said from the farm. Of those people, there are several who come back again and again. “There are definitely some returning customers.”“I love to pick berries, and I’m hoping my grandchildren get onto it too. I was out yesterday on my own.”
