Whisky? Adidas shoes? There is more 'Game of Thrones' merchandise out there than you could have imagined
The eighth and final season of “Game of Thrones” premieres on HBO this Sunday. And even as the competing royal houses of Westeros band together to rule the Seven Kingdoms dreamed up by author George R.R. Martin, real-life brands have formed alliances with HBO and its parent company, AT&T Inc.’s WarnerMedia, to profit off the hit fantasy series as it wraps.
The major characters each belong to a dynasty that is marked by a family symbol , motto and color scheme: Stark is a gray direwolf with the words “Winter Is Coming,” while the rival Lannister family is a gold lion with “Hear Me Roar.
A record 16.1 million people tuned in to the seventh season premiere in summer 2017, including 10.1 million watching on linear television, and the rest streaming HBO Go and HBO Now, or catching it on DVR. That premiere also drew more than 2.4 million tweets between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. Eastern. And in the U.S., the last season drew an average audience of 32.8 million viewers per episode.
