Since the newly-elected House Speaker's speech last week on upholding decency in the House of Commons, MPs say they would like to see the Chamber return to a measure of decorum—and some MPs are hopeful Greg Fergus is up to the job. spoke to a number of MPs both on their way into West Block for Question Period as well as over the phone about parliamentary decorum in Question Period following Fergus' contentious speech on the issue on Oct.
NDP MP Peter Julian , his party's House Leader, told that he thinks decorum in the House is deteriorating, but that the new Speaker is taking steps to ensure that it is restored. “That being said, the official opposition seems unrestrained by the quorum or by facts or by reality—there are increasingly asking questions and making statements that do not, in any way, reflect reality,” said Julian.
