Miranda and Melanie Wilking, aka The Wilking Sisters, are a sibling duo from Michigan who dance, sing, act and model. Social media influencers with over 2 million followers and nearly 200 million views on TikTok as well as other platforms, they offer their tips for how to succeed online.
during this time because we encourage people to interact with their families, get up and get active, and be safe, all while laughing and having a good time,” say the Wilking Sisters. “This is much needed during a time when the news is generally so heavy and deep. Additionally, being social media influencers gives us an opportunity to earn an income and promote products at a time when brands are feeling the financial crunch.
Miranda and Melanie Wilking’s desire to dance and perform began at a very young age. At ages 9 and 7, respectively, created their own dance camp in their backyard, teaching dance to little girls their age and younger. This camp became a yearly tradition that continued to grow each year and eventually was featured in local newspapers. They both signed with MTA, a California talent agency.
Miranda Wilking followed her passion and moved to Los Angeles after graduating high school. She began performing with Radio Disney, the W Hotel, the vintage group the Satin Dollz, and teaching dance in Hollywood at the International Dance Academy. Melanie, too, moved to LA after one year. With the support of her high school community back home, she continued her studies on-line and ended up graduating a semester early with the highest honors.
One of the biggest obstacles they’ve faced in this career is moving away from their family and friends and being far from home. Their family has always been extremely close and supportive. It has been a challenge, but Miranda and Melanie Wilking talk with their parents daily and visit Michigan as often as they can.
The Wilking Sisters have a message for young people. They ask that you find something you love to do and are good at, and begin to learn as much as you can so that you can develop that passion into a career. Miranda and Melanie Wilking’s passion led to them to practice dance every day, which led to professional opportunities in their community, and eventually a full-blown career.
