THE OPEN: Corey Conners finished with 2023 majors, focus turns to PGA Tour playoffs
“I love the golf course, I think it’s really challenging from tee-to-green,” Conners said of Hoylake. “It’s a cool place. I definitely made some mmistakes the first few days and dug myself a bit of a hole, but still some positives.”
The soft Sunday conditions likely would have forced Conners’ hand anyway, but the Listowel, Ont. native had already decided he’d taken enough chances at the closing hole.Article content With that par, Conners 2023 major championship season was over. It was a year that saw him get as close as ever to becoming just the second Canadian man to win one of golf’s four majors.
“The PGA was exciting, but a couple missed cuts in the two others was rather disappointing,” Conners said. “I have had decent performances in majors thus far, so I was definitely expecting more out of my game and my performance as a whole. But saying that, it was really fun at the PGA to get myself in the mix and be able to feel what it’s like to be in contention.”
