The improvement the Rockets need was in being controlled — on and off the court, coach Stephen Silas has said — and reliable with the ball and his team’s chances in his hands. That’s why when Porter discussed his play Sunday, it was telling that he spoke not of 3-pointers falling but of “consistency.”
“I guess it kind of the two go together to me,” Silas said. “So, his off-the-court maturity has led to on-the-court maturity. His off the court, kind of even-keeled demeanor has transferred to on the court even-keeled demeanor where it's not … as polar at times, and we can be a more even group as a result.
