Rockets' best-laid practice plans thwarted by players being limited

A much-anticipated practice Tuesday for Rockets coach Stephen Silas had to be scaled back because of players limited because of soreness.Rockets coach Stephen Silas looked forward to Tuesday’s practice for weeks. No game the day before or after. No flight to catch. Another practice the following day to focus on the next opponent. As has often been the case, plans changed.

Silas, rather than push his team as he had planned with no game until facing the Hawks on Friday, had to watch five players watching. Eric Gordon, Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun and Josh Christopher were limited with soreness. Jae’Sean Tate is still out. “I felt awful,” Silas said. “I spent so much time on this great practice plan and basically had to scrap a lot of it, do a little more breakdown, which we needed. There was a lot of purpose to our practice, got some clean-up stuff done. It would have been nice to have the whole group. But if you’re going to take some bumps and bruises and stuff, going into a four-day period , this is the time to do it.

, went through all of Tuesday’s practice, his first with no restrictions since his injury Oct. 21 forced him to miss 15 games. Fernando started the first two games. Though Silas did not say how he would be used or if he is expected back for both games of this weekend’s back-to-back, he said that Usman Garuba, who has played as the backup center, could play as a forward with Sengun or Fernando.
