OTTAWA — The Conservative Party of Canada will announce the winner of its leadership race at an event in Ottawa on Saturday night. The first-ballots results are expected to be revealed around 7:30 p.m. eastern time, but the ranked-ballot system the party uses to elect its leader could mean it will take longer than that for someone to emerge victorious.
The party says members who marked Brown as a first choice on their ballots will automatically have their votes go toward their second-choice candidates. When a candidate is eliminated, the votes they received from members who ranked them first will be transferred to the candidates those members ranked second.
