It was a big day in the life and career of one of our greatest modern-era Prime Ministers, Lester B. Pearson, on this date in 1948. The future Nobel Laureat, who had spent most of his professional career in the safety of the public service, had just entered politics and was immediately brought into cabinet as Secretary of State for External Affairs. And September 10, 1948 marked the date of the first-ever cabinet meeting he’d attend as a minister.

Mr. Pearson would prove much more successful during the many cabinet meetings that followed over the next nine years!
