'Tenaciousness of winter': Weather Network forecasts a delayed spring

According to the network's forecast, Saskatchewan and Manitoba are expected to experience colder than normal temperatures.

“We’ve got, frankly, more than a month before we can really start to talk about consistent warmth.”

Spring flooding, at this point, is not a major concern across southern portions of Saskatchewan and Manitoba, The Weather Network said, noting that most areas received near-normal or below-normal snowfall during the winter. As well, the outlook for spring is calling for much drier conditions than last year. Further north, the spring flood risk is near normal.

“Some places in eastern Canada may see more winter weather in the next few weeks strung together than we’ve seen all winter long,” he said.Article content Scott credits a warm jet stream from the coast of South America for the largely mild winter, noting such conditions are increasingly likely to reoccur.
