In 2019, 43,000 people participated in the run. Race registration peaked at 59,000 in 2008.
“The recent return to full-capacity crowds in major sports and entertainment venues is reason for optimism that we will be able to safely welcome participants to an in-person Vancouver Sun Run next April,” said Harold Munro, editor-in-chief of the Vancouver Sun and Province.Article content
“There is nothing quite like the sights and sounds of all those runners winding their way through the city,” said Munro. “We are excited to welcome Subway as the event sponsor given their promotion of healthy living and strong presence in communities across B.C.” Hopkins said organizers will also offer a virtual race option for participants who may not feel ready to join an in-person event.
Registrants will not need to provide proof of vaccination to register, but race organizers will be following all provincial mandates, said Hopkins. “If vaccination passport guidelines are still in place in April, we will be following those guidelines. If vaccination rules change, we will change with it.”
“The whole running community is very excited to get back to in person racing,” said Hopkins. “One of the most exciting things is that the industry has seen a surge in participation and more people are being active. We hope that as Canada’s largest running event, we will be one of the first stops for people to take their passion for road running to the next level.”
