Cambrian College launching Building Construction Technician – Carpentry program

The Building Construction Technician – Carpentry program will train people for entry-level positions as framing carpenters, concrete form workers, interior systems installers, exterior finishers, door and window installers, and junior estimators.

They may also pursue entrepreneurship in the skilled trades. “The construction industry needs skilled professionals who understand more than just how to build — they need people who can think critically, lead safely, and adapt to modern building standards,” Kim Crane, Cambrian’s interim dean the School of Skilled Trades, said in a Dec. 17 news release. “This program gives students the advanced training and real-world experience employers are looking for, while also supporting those who want to eventually run their own businesses.” Combining a mix of class work and hands-on experience, students will learn how to review and interpret building plans, collaborate with multiple tradespeople, apply sustainability practices, understand building codes, and ensure projects meet safety and legal standards. The course is delivered in person, over two years, at Cambrian’s Sudbury campus, and students can study in multiple ways, including completing the first year, entering the workforce and returning to finish later; a co-op opportunity; sharing the first year with the Carpentry and Renovation Techniques certificate; or an accelerated learning option.
