A strong westerly air flow is bringing gusts of 50km/h to parts of Metro Vancouver

The strong wind and clear days are due to what the Weather Network has termed an “Omega block,” which is a series of weather systems — two low and one high in the middle — that have settled over Canada. This is leading to very hot temperatures in Manitoba. The heat will migrate west to B.C. as the week wears on, pushing highs around 30 C in Metro Vancouver by the end of the week. At the moment the Omega block is responsible for the strong winds that have occurred over the past few days.
