Marine Atlantic says it has identified and is correcting the mechanical issue with its new vessel, but its introduction to service will be delayed by nearly two weeks.
At a Thursday news conference to provide an update on the ship’s status, Marine Atlantic said the Ala'suinu is now expected to make its first trip as part of the ferry fleet on June 26. The company said it worked closely with the ship’s owner, Stena North Sea Ltd., to identify the problem and that the issue is covered under the ship’s warranty.Customers impacted by the delay in Argentia service will be re-routed through the Gulf service .
To increase available capacity on the Port aux Basques service during this period, and to transport affected Argentia customers, Marine Atlantic is adjusting its schedule between June 14–25 to add additional crossings.
