The strong showing in public opinion polls for the federal Conservatives is leading to plenty of interest in carrying the party's colours in P.E.I. when Canadians go to the polls next October.
After being on the opposition benches since 2015, the Conservatives under Pierre Poilievre have been consistently outpolling the governing Liberals under Justin Trudeau. Despite a flurry of policy and program announcements on everything from Pharmacare to help for first-time homebuilders, the Liberals have been unable to close the gap. All indications seem to be Canadians are simply tired of the current prime minister and want a change.
In Egmont, entrepreneur and financial adviser Logan McLellan is making another run for the right to face incumbent Robert Morrissey. He carried the party's colours in 2019, finishing just over 1,100 voters behind the former provincial cabinet minister. This time around, Adam Bassett, an education specialist with Health P.E.I., is also seeking the nomination. Both men have been campaigning hard to win the support of delegates to the yet uncalled nominating convention.
Former provincial cabinet minister and party leader James Aylward is looking for the nomination along with Billy Cann , as well as Darryl Berger, a property management professional who worked on Pierre Poilievre's 2022 leadership campaign.
