They'll have the same brews at the liquor store, but the underlying brand is changing because of some fruity sparkling water.
When Spindrift Brewing opened in 2015, on a side road in Dartmouth’s Burnside industrial park, the brewery’s owners couldn't have predicted that eight years later it would be embracing its industrial roots as part of a rebrand. The rebrand came at the behest of Spindrift Beverage Company, a Massachusetts based producer of real fruit based sparkling waters.
Green says the strong name recognition of the brewery’s Toller and Killick brands was one reason the rebrand was possible. According to Green, “it forced us to look internally. We've got this great Toller brand. We've got Killick, and other brands that are popular. ‘Are they popular because of the name spindrift?’ The answer was ‘yes, because they are great liquid.’” Assured by their strong existing brands, they agreed to rename their company.
Despite some of those creative alternatives, the simplest name ‘Burnside Brewing’ kept coming to the fore. Green says the name represents the working-class people of the industrial park. He elaborates “I’ve always been someone who believes we are selling beer and not saving lives….in my opinion ‘craft’ beer can alienate us a bit from the majority of beer drinkers as it can be a little bit pretentious…. It's beer, and it's fun.
