Prelude to the Best Sommelier of Canada Contest | SaltWireINGONISH, N.S. — Parks Canada is making headway in the upstream battle to restore the Atlantic salmon population in Cape Breton Highlands National Park.
Sarah Penney is the project co-ordinator for the Atlantic Salmon Recovery Project and resource management officer with Cape Breton Highlands National Park. “There's nothing like picking up a salmon and putting it back into the river yourself,” she said. Contributed/Parks Canada - cc At one time there were so many fish that there was a commercial salmon fishery offshore of the Clyburn Brook but numbers dropped to as few as 10 salmon.
