Sokoman Minerals and Benton Resources are gathering more data on what they believe is a large lithium deposit in southwestern Newfoundland. - Courtesy of Benton Resources - Contributed Canada signed a memorandum of understanding with German carmakers Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz in August 2022 to help provide the companies with access to lithium, nickel and cobalt.
“There just isn’t enough lithium out there now to meet this demand. It’s expected to double or triple in the next five to 10 years. We’d like to be one of those sources.”Froude, a geologist who grew up in central Newfoundland, is no stranger to the mineral potential of the province. In 1986, when he was still a student, he and another man discovered gold near. His company and Benton Resources have three joint ventures currently, with the other two focused on gold.
