We chat with Outlander stars Sophie Skelton & Richard Rankin about how Brianna and Roger are tested in season 7, and how their chemistry has evolved over the last few years:
Outlander season 7, part 1 lands at STARZ on June 16, and fans have been waiting with breathless anticipation to see how the series resolves the major season 6 cliffhanger. Of course, readers of the popular novels by Diana Gabaldon know that the events will play out similarly to the end of A Breath of Snow and Ashes but Outlander and the start of An Echo in the Bone.
Sophie Skelton & Richard Rankin Talk Outlander Season 7 Screen Rant: One of the taglines for the season is “When Do You Belong?”, which seems to be such an important question for Brianna. You've spent so much time with Jamie and Claire and found your family again, but you’ve also built this family with Roger. How divided are you feeling this season?
But this season is less about when they belong and more about when they have to be. There's something that happens this season that massively dictates the rest of Roger and Brianna's life, their location, and their time. It's a force that they can't control nor decide, and it's an inevitable move. So, that's kind of more it for Roger and Bree, I would say – it's less in their hands.
It comes from a place of his values and his own perceived integrity, I think. But he's come a long way since that, and I think he's moved a long way. His values are now very different, and he's a much more well-rounded, patient man. I think their relationship has come a hell of a long way, and I think there's a much deeper understanding and a great back-and-forth and communication between Roger and Bree now.
