Bay Area meteorologists say 'there's high confidence that the snow will get down to 1,500 feet, and it's looking like it could go as low as 1,000 feet.'

next week, with potentially the lowest temperatures of the year so far and snow levels dropping to as low as 1,000 to 1,500 feet.

What the weather service is calling a"very intense trough" is developing over western Canada and is expected to dive down into the Pacific Northwest and Northern California."This system is really going to hold together and bring a larger, denser amount of cold air farther south," King said Sunday morning.

As the system approaches, winds are forecast to kick up Tuesday night into Wednesday; gusts may exceed 30 mph to 35 mph in the interior valley areas and reach as high as 40 mph to 50 mph along the coast and on the highest peaks. Winds are forecast to ease in interior locations on Thursday, but the coastline could remain blustery.
