MOUNT PEARL, N.L. — The City of Mount Pearl approved a pair of development permits last week that will see six new apartment buildings go up in the town.at 166 Park Avenue, which is the former site of Park Avenue Elementary School, which was closed in 1999 and demolished in 2002.
“From what I'm being told, mid-size homes, which are costing anywhere from $450,000 to $600,000, they're not selling much,” he said. “It's the smaller homes and the townhouses that are being developed that people are looking for in terms of a little bit more openness to a stronger rental market.
Council is looking at the city centre area in Mount Pearl as part of its intensification and development plans, Aker said, and these developments help the city get closer to its goals under the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation Housing Accelerator Fund to fast track 180 housing units over the next three years.
