Six people found dead in Akwesasne marsh near Quebec-U.S. border: RCMP
Akwesasne police are working with Immigration Canada to assist with identifying the victims and notifying the next of kin.
The AMPS said it would request help from the Sûreté du Québec and the Ontario Provincial Police air-support units to continue its investigation. Police are awaiting post-mortem and toxicology test results to provide information on the possible cause of the deaths. Police said investigators are also attempting to determine the identities of the deceased, and their status in Canada. The statement indicated police do no believe there is any threat to public safety.
“While human smuggling in our community is a public safety concern, please be reminded that illegal immigrants are human beings,” the department wrote. “These individuals are still deserving of respect and should not be exploited for monetary gains.”Article content
