The Special Investigations Unit says police learned that a man had been inside a grocery store in Haliburton County, Ont., and had allegedly been assaulting people
“He refused to wear a mask at the store. He was refused service and the assault happened thereafter. So our people became involved with that initial assault investigation and follow-up,” OPP Sgt.
Jason Folz said,The arm’s-length agency says after the man left the grocery store, officers recognized his car and followed it.The SIU says two officers shot at the man and hit him.The SIU is automatically called in to investigate reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
