After overcoming surgery to remove a massive tumour from her brain, a Wolfville native is coming home to deliver her final public musical performance.

Denton-Peck said she knows her body well after three years of recovering from an acquired brain injury. Her energy level for performances is better in the afternoons, so she decided on 3 p.m. start times for the recitals.Massive tumour removed She said the tumour had compromised several of her normal functions, negatively impacted her vision and hearing, and was essentially consuming her. She lost her passion for music and by 2016 or 2017, she could no longer sing, play piano, or teach others.

Denton-Peck said Forrester was the quintessential interpreter of Gustav Mahler’s music. Forrester was a classical performer, but she also sang a lot of 20th century pieces.Denton-Peck is also a Contralto, and they sang many of the same songs.

Denton-Peck said Forrester inspired her throughout her life. She has every one of her CD’s; she prepared and sang a demanding Handel Operatic aria from Forrester’s Handel CD at a recital in New York City, and participated in a Forrester master class in Buffalo, New York. To be accompanied on the grand piano by classical concert pianist Walter Delahunt, contralto Nancy Denton-Peck presents “Remembering Maureen Forrester: A Canadian Treasure”, her final public performance, on May 7. - ContributedDenton-Peck’s first comeback performance was held at the Wolfville Baptist Church on Sept. 12, 2021.

She said it’s also quite fitting that she performed a tribute to Forrester at St. Andrew’s, as this was the venue for Forrester’s last Nova Scotia performance in 1997.
